Kayak paddles come in a wide variety of materials, blade shapes and lengths, each of which contributes to the overall performance of the paddle. Ideally, kayak paddles are lightweight, durable and comfortable to use, although length is an important consideration you’ll need to keep in mind. By selecting a kayak paddle with the proper length, you’ll become less fatigued as you paddle and the chances of straining yourself are lowered dramatically.
So, what is the best length for a paddle? Most adults do well with a paddle between 220 and 240 cm in length if they’re using recreational kayaks or ocean kayaks. Wider kayaks require longer paddles, and paddlers who are using an inflatable kayak may want a paddle around 250 cm. Whitewater kayakers, on the other hand, require more powerful strokes so they should select a much shorter paddle around 205 cm long.
While Miami is surrounded by water, it’s surprisingly difficult to find those perfect spots to head out with your kayak because open space is really a rarity. Still, there are some great places to check out if you know where to look. Here’s a look at some of the best kayaking spots throughout South Florida, including the Miami area, the Florida Keys and Fort Lauderdale.

Unfortunately, inflatable kayaks and boats today have an unfair reputation for being no better than pool toys. This couldn’t be farther from the truth as technology has advanced quite a bit over the last decade. As you can see in the picture, inflatable kayaks and boats are now used by the United States Coast Guard and some are even designed to tackle whitewater rivers. Here’s a look at some considerations to keep in mind as you shop for your first inflatable kayak.
Kayak fishing has gained popularity over the past decade, even among fisherman who had never tried kayaking before. This type of fishing is an alternative to wading into the water and offers plenty of benefits over fishing from a boat as well. To begin with, a kayak can easily reach places inaccessible to boats. Getting into kayak fishing is also fairly affordable and begins with just a fishing kayak and some gear.
Rash guards for women are more than just a piece of clothing; they’re used to protect your skin from surfboard wax as well as sun damage.
While they were originally designed for surfers to protect against the irritating effect of surfboard wax, they’re popular today with beach-goers as well as other water sports enthusiasts, including people who enjoy using SUP boards.
Most are made from nylon with spandex, making them fast drying, light and anti-bacterial. Rash guards also provide UV protection, and womens rash guards are designed specifically for the curves of a woman’s body. Continue reading
